ASU gets Demetrius Walker.

Demetrius Walker, the 6'4, 200 lb combo guard out of St. Mary's High School in Phoenix, AZ., has committed to play basketball for Arizona State University this Fall, beginning the 2009-10 season. He has a chiseled NBA physique and he has had that type of body since his freshman year of high school. Walker is first and foremost a dominant scorer and he can hurt the opposition in several ways. He's at his best in the transition game, where he attacks the basket with reckless abandon - more times than not it will be with a thunderous dunk. He needs to hone his perimeter ball handling skills, particularly his left hand, and continue to smoothen out his jump shot to play at the highest level at Arizona State. As a freshman, it would not surprise me at all to see Walker start some games, hit a decline as a freshman and struggle some, then become a stronger contributor later on in Pac-10 play. It will be interesting to see if he can run the team from the PG position, or if he is only interested in being a scorer.

Rayes Gallegos, picks Nebraska.

Rayes Gallegos, a 6'3, 165 lb shooting guard out of West Jordan High School in West Jordan, UT., has committed to the University of Nebraska to play basketball for the Husker's beginning the 2009-10 season. At 6 feet, 3 inches, Gallegos knows he needs to spend time eating the weights in the weight room so he can add to his 165-pound frame. On the court, he’s comfortable playing either shooting guard or point guard; he averaged 17 points his senior season, leading West Jordan High School to a state championship. Gallegos is a lightening fast scorer that is a terror in transition and in halfcourt sets -- he is a flat out scorer and he rarely gets rattled on the floor folks. During the recruitment process Gallegos received interest from UCLA, Utah, Utah State, San Diego State, Colorado State and Weber State. Look for this kid to make an early contribution for the Husker's this Fall.

D.J. Byrd Commits To Purdue

D.J. Byrd, the 6'5, 200 lb shooting guard out of North Montgomery High School in Crawfordsville, IN., has committed to Purdue University to play basketball for the Boilermakers in the 2009-10 season. D.J. is a good shooter with deep range, I'm talking beyond 22 feet. D.J. does not do much off the dribble but can get by a defender that feels that they can pressure him too close. This kid is a big guard that has the ability to play multiple positions on the floor. As you can see, he already has a Big Ten ready body, and to match that he has good athleticism and he plays hard all of the time. Byrd is a player that should be somewhat familiar with Purdue's basketball program, being from Indiana. Head coach, Matt Painter should feel very fortunate to get a guy of his physical stature that can slide in and fit with what they do on both sides of the ball.

K-State Adds Irving to Basketball Squad.

Martavious Irving, the 6'2, 195 lb shooting guard out of Boyd Anderson High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL., has committed to play basketball for Kansas State University this Fall. A starter in all 28 games during his senior campaign in high school, Irving averaged 15 points, 7 boards and 2 cookies per game in 2008-09. He was a unanimous selection to the Class 6A-5A-4A All-Broward first team by both the Miami Herald and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. This kid is physical and strong as a guard, and he has no problem making that a know fact. Irving is a streaky shooter from behind the arc at best but when his feet are set, he can make you pay. He uses his body well and absorbs contact to knock weaker players off the ball as he goes to the rack to complete "and one" situations. Also, Irving makes his coaches happy by playing with good energy and passion on both ends of the floor. He has an excellent combination of athleticism and strength at the guard position and will be a great fit for the Wildcats style of play this upcoming season.

Norfolk Collegiate's Donte Hill commits to Clemson for the 2009-10 basketball season.

Donte Hill, the 6'4, 185 Shooting Guard out of Norfolk Collegiate School in Virginia Beach, VA., has committed to play basketball for Clemson University this Fall. Hill averaged 20 points, 8 boards and 6 dimes last season during his senior campaign. He also had 10 double-doubles throughout the course of the season. Donte has worked hard to improved on his perimeter shooting but not enough where it has been a consistent weapon for him. He does a solid job in seeing and driving gaps getting to the rim. In transition, Donte excels -- he loves to get out and fill his lane as a wing position player, looking for the explosive play. He is athletically gifted and will fit into the Clemson full court pressure defensive system. Being a solid defender will get him more playing time as a freshman at Clemson.

Reggie Moore is a Cougar.

Reggie Moore, a 6'1, 175 Point Guard out of Seattle, WA, by way of Brewster Academy (NH) will be in a Washington State Cougars uniform this Fall. Moore has the ability to score in a plethora of ways and seems most comfortable playing as a scoring point guard, instead of as a traditional pass-first point guard. He has the ability to connect from well beyond the 3-point arc, but he is a bit streaky as a shooter at times. Once at the rim, Moore has solid body control, but he has to alleviate his tendency to over-penetrate on the colligiate level if he wants to stay out trouble. If he wants to play the point on a more consistent basis in Washington State's system, he will have to use his quickness and ball-handling skills to get to the paint and involve his teammates.

Maymon commits to Marquette University.

Jeronne Maymon, a 6'6, 235 lb Small Forward out of James Madison Memorial High School in Madison, WI., has committed to play basketball for Marquette University this Fall, beginning in the 2009-10 season. Maymon is strong, athletic and most often is in attack mode. Maymon is a physical combination forward that will finish above the rim with power in transition. He uses his body well to drive by defenders, and he loves to score mostly going to his right to get to the rim. Maymon also shoots the mid range pull up off the dribble. On defense Maymon is alert and does a good job of honoring man and ball principles. He also is very good at anticipating the next pass and coming up with key steals. His toughness and competitiveness will make him a contributor at Marquette as a freshman.

Findlay Prep standout, Carlos Lopez signs with UNLV.

Carlos Lopez, the 6'9, 200 lb power forward out of Findlay College Prep in Henderson, NV., will enroll at UNLV this Fall and play for the Runnin' Rebels starting with the 2009-10 season. Lopez averaged 7.0 points and 4.5 rebounds last year as the Pilots were 32-1 overall and lost in the prep school national championship game. As of right now, Lopez is seen as more of a finesse frontline player due to his lack of strength and muscle. However, he compensates for his lack of size by effectively utilizing a diverse skill-set on the offensive end by stepping away to knock down those 15-18 foot jumpers. Look for head Runnin' Rebel, Coach Lon Kruger to design offensive plays that allow Lopez to get involved in pick-and-pop situations on the perimeter, to maximize his skills as a big fella.

Guard Adam Brown to Join Cougars in 2009-10.

Adam Brown, 6'3, 180 lb shooting guard out of Plano, TX (Churchill/Collin County CC) will attend the University of Houston this Fall to play basketball for Cougars. He is just the shooter the Cougars needed to compliment fellow backcourt player, PG Kelvin Lewis this Fall. A major problem last year was the inability of anyone besides Lewis (especially against the Memphis Tigers) to hit a shot from beyond the arc. Adam Brown averaged 19 points, 3 boards and 2 dimes for Collin County CC in Plano, Texas. Brown was the leading scorer on a JUCO team that went 28-5 on the year, won the NTJCAC league title and ranked as high as #16 in the NJCAA. He was also named NTJCAC MVP and 1st team All-Conference. He averaged 43 percent from behind the arc and recorded 14 games with at least 20 points, including a season-high 33 points against Temple College. Adam should fit easily into head coach Tom Penders' scheme of things.

DeMario Mayfield Commits To Georgia Basketball For 2009.

DeMario Mayfield, the 6'3, 190 lb point guard out of Franklin County High School in Carnesville, GA., has comitted to play basketball at the University of Georgia beginning the 2009-10 season. DeMario is long, athletic and versatile. This kid can be equally comfortable and effective with or without the ball on offense. His size and versatility should provide the Bulldogs with many options during the course of this upcoming season. Get this, DeMario also has the ability to be a tough, tough defender when applying on the ball pressure. Mayfield has a tremendous work ethic, and is what we call a true "gym rat". If his schedule permits, he can be found in the gym working on his game every day. He is more a scorer now than a pure shooter. He does have good dribble-drive moves, and an effective medium range game. With all the attributes that he brings to the table should get him significant minutes as a collegiate freshman at his future school, the University of Georgia.

Ramon Galloway is a Gamecock!

Ramon Galloway, the 6'3, 175 lb Shooting Guard out of Dwyer High School in West Palm Beach, FL., will attend the University of South Carolina this Fall to play basketball for the Gamecocks. If you were fortunate to see this kid play you would probaby admire his cat-like quickness, explosive athletic ability and how smooth he is on the court. A couple of impressive things about Galloway is how easily he can go from swishing a 3-pointer to changing the momentum of a game with a steal followed by a thunderous dunk! Everything this kid does looks so effortless. He's so unselfish – he could score any time he wants, but he still looks for his teammates first. He is a good shooter that has range beyond the arc. However, he needs to get stronger, but Galloway has all the tools to be an impact guard in the SEC.
